Born in Edinburgh. Qualified as a dentist, practiced in Nottingham.
Worked at Nottinghan School of Design, went to London 1866. Member of Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour.

Exhibited at Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, New Watercolour Society, Grosvenor Gallery, New Gallery etc. Exhibition was held in 1893 at Fine Art Society, London.
